Photo of the Day
Today is a great day if you love Memphis photography. Capture Memphis is proud to announce a new feature that we're sure you'll love: Photo of the Day. The Photo of the Day page is a great spot to start your day, or the perfect way to explore the best Memphis-area photography through time.
Here a few key points on this new feature:
How Photo of the Day is determined: Every day, hundreds of photos are submitted to Capture Memphis and local folks vote thousands of times for those photos. Our editors are also looking at photos on a daily basis. There are a ton of great shots submitted every day, but the Photo of the Day is the one photo that rises to the top for a particular day as decided by either the voters or our editors (or a combination of both).
Explore beyond today: When you first visit the Photo of the Day page, you'll be looking at "Today in Photos," which highlights the photo of the day for today, plus popular photos and new photos submitted today. A great way to find other great Memphis-area photography is to navigate the calendar and explore another day's photo of the day, popular photos and new photos. What was popular on December 19, 2010? Now you know! Once you jump into a specific day, you'll vote through all photos submitted that day until you've voted for all of them, then you'll get routed back to the Photo of the Day page where you can explore another day.
Jump elsewhere quickly: On the right side of the Photo of the Day page, you'll find a bunch of places you can quickly jump to, including a random photo, a category, a showcase or a challenge. You can also do a quick search and get to voting wherever you'd like.
As a part of this change, we are moving away from spotlights and focusing more time, effort and prizes on themed challenges. Stay tuned for some longer-running challenges with some great prizes.
And, as always, your photos and votes are helping shape the best of the Memphis-area in photos for various publications along the way. Check out our most recent showcase publication, Memphis Landmarks and Architecture. We are also just getting the ball rolling on the next showcase.
