Help » FAQ » Voting

How many times can I vote for each photo?

Once! You get one shot to vote for each photo, so think about it first. Be sure you think a photo is really something before digging it. Don't feel bad about nixing a photo. It's not a bad thing to nix photos. Not all photos are worth digging. There's no shame in that. You can think of nixing a photo as skipping it. Plus, no one gets to see how you voted so there's no hurt feelings.

Your votes help pick winners for prizes, challenges and so on. Your votes also help our editors find the best of the best for publishing.

Is it possible to vote for a photo more than once?

No. Are you asking because you think you somehow voted twice for a photo or because you want to cheat? Actually, it doesn't matter because you can't cheat. Without getting too technical, it is absolutely impossible to vote for a photo more than once. If you think you have, we're afraid you're mistaken and that the photo is simply very similar to one you've already voted on.

So I can vote without registering?

Nope. You must be registered to vote so we can keep the contest fair. If you didn't have to register to vote, you could vote over and over again for the same photo, and that just wouldn't be fair. So, register and vote! It's free and we won't spam you. Easy as that.

What is currently?

Currently is what you're browsing or voting through. Another way to think of it is a scope. You can set your currently scope to a category, a place, a user, a challenge or even a day. Once your currently scope is set to something, you'll vote through that scope until you reach the end. We created this feature because you may want to vote for all photos, randomly, but you may want to vote just for your friend's photos, or just photos submitted three days ago. Setting your currently scope to your friend will help you drill down to what you really want to vote for. You can jump in and start voting for another scope by clicking the currently icon icon.

How do I know what I'm currently voting on or browsing?

Right underneath the navigation you'll see the currently bar, which indicates where you are in the flow of things. You'll be voting for whatever that currently bar says. To change your currently scope, click the change button and search for something new. You can also switch back to random by clicking the random button. You can easily jump into a new currently scope by clicking the currently icon icon.

What's the little gray icon I'm seeing?

This thing? currently icon That's the currently button. Click that and you'll immediately be taken to a photo within that scope and your currently bar will update accordingly. From then on you'll be voting in that scope.

Why is voting random by default?

Because we hit the shuffle button... and because random is fair. Every photo uploaded deserves a fair shot at getting views, votes, loves and comments. So, after you vote for a photo, you are taken to a completely random photo within the scope you are currently voting for. Vote for that photo and another random one is presented to you. That way, views (and thus, votes) are spread around evenly. To make things a little less random you can change your currently scope at any time.

Is the voting system legitimate?

Yes. You can't cheat. We've built in all sorts of ways to ensure a fair vote. And don't think we're not checking things personally. Computers and algorithms are great, but at the end of it all, we've got folks looking over votes to make sure everything is square.
